dc.description.abstract Mosque plays a vital role in Islamic community. Philosophically, mosque is developed not only as the place to perform the worship, but also to function as the center for Islamic community development in many aspects. However, these days, with the increasing number of mosques being built, it becomes a big challenge to the mosque authority to sustain the role of mosque as the center of Islamic community. Of significance, these challenges necessitate a more effective management system particularly related to the mosque facilities. The mosque facilities consist of all types of buildings and equipment for prayer and non-prayer activities such as prayer hall, ablution area, community gathering hall, light sports and games area, lighting system, toilet facilities, security, facilities for disable persons, landscape and gardens including trees, roads and paths. These facilities play vital role in the realization of the roles of mosques. It should be well maintained and necessity to be in working order. However, the literature portrays that there are some risen issues related to facilities management (FM) of mosque, particularly related to uncontrolled infrastructure, hygiene, inappropriate design, non-strategic location, poor monitoring tools and utilization of conventional facilities management technique. This study aimed at further exploring the uncovered issue related to FM of mosque. Qualitative research methodology will be adopted in the study. Data will be collected at three different areas in the southern region of peninsular Malaysia. The main concern of this study is three fold, first is to identify the critical success factors (CSFs) in managing the FM of mosques. The second part of this study will examine how the FM of mosques can be optimized and embraced the digital age following the Megatrends, i.e. 4th Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0).The study will taking into account the complex interplay between a building or an infrastructure asset of mosque and the digital systems. In the third and final part of this study, those identified CSFs will be integrated towards a holistic framework to manage the FM of mosques. The results from the research would beneficial for all stakeholders that directly or indirectly involve in managing, uplifting and sustaining the FM of mosque.
