dc.description.abstract This paper presents a project on the design of an energy storage system for rainwater harvesting system through downpipe. Malaysia is a country that had a relatively high rainfall each year. In order to stabilize energy demand, rainfall can be used as renewable energy to help reduce the growth in energy demand. This energy can be very useful during emergency such as power outage. For this project, high level of water at the gutter can be completely used to deliver power from the flow of water inside the domestic downpipe. The change of energy from potential energy to kinetic energy will rotate the blade of hydro turbine to generate electricity. This generated electricity in the form of power will be stabilized first it can be passed to the controller charging mechanism before stored in a rechargeable battery. The energy stored in the battery is composed in a way that permits effective combination, through appropriate management is consolidated vitality to the user when they most need it. Next, a complete circuit for energy storage system can be designed to boost up the input power in order to charge the rechargeable battery. This complete circuit is required to store the energy temporarily or permanently before releasing it to the load distribution system. The capacity of the energy storage system for rainwater harvesting system depends on the output generated from the hydro turbine as well as the pressure of the rainwater that runs from the roof drainage system that hits the turbine. en_US
