Abstract:
Distortion is a major problem in welding fabrication, which is needed to be
minimized and controlled in order to reduce the manufacturing cost due to distortion
repair. This research studies about distortion behaviour due to Gas Metal Arc
Welding (GMAW) robotic, process by simulation method using finite element
software Simufact Welding. This simulation software is able to provide fast, reliable
result of distortion and other derformations of the welded specimen. The material
used in this research is High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) S460. The modelling of
the geometry is performed by using Catia VR20. Then, the geometries were imported
to MSC Nastran Patran software for ‗Mesh‘. The geometry from MSC Nastran
Patran then imported to Simufact Welding to undergo pre and post processing
processes. The aim of the study is to understand the basic principles of welding
simulation using Simufact Welding and to obtain the result of deformation on the
tubular after the welding process. The results of T and K tubular then will be
compared to the experimental result to validate the simulation result in the future.
Other than understanding principle of welding process, this study also focuses on
accommodating manual on building simulation models as educational purposes as
future references.
