Introduction: Understanding the dimensions of the knee joint menisci is crucial for arthroscopic surgery and the management of injuries. Menisci’s size, shape, and composition play roles in determining the structural and material properties of the tissue allograft. The present study aims to describe the morphometric measurement and intrinsic innervation of the knee meniscus in Myanmar’s adult population.

Methods: The length, width, thickness, and other morphometric factors of 160 menisci from twenty male and twenty female autopsy bodies were measured. Five menisci from fresh cadavers were dissected, stained with Marsland, Glees, and Erikson’s staining methods, and examined under a light microscope.

Results: The average length of the medial and lateral meniscus was 8.49 cm and 7.98 cm, respectively. The average width of the anterior horn, body, and posterior horn of medial menisci were 0.64 cm, 0.63 cm, and 1.25 cm, and that of lateral menisci were 0.94 cm, 0.89 cm, and 0.95 cm. The average thickness of the anterior horn, body, and posterior horn of medial menisci was 0.38 cm, 0.45 cm, and 0.47 cm, and that of lateral menisci were 0.25 cm, 0.42 cm, and 0.39 cm. Ruffini’s corpuscles, Paccinian corpuscles, and Golgi tendon organs with fibrous capsules were observed under the light microscope at the anterior and posterior horns of the menisci.

Conclusions: The present study provides a good understanding of the knee meniscus in the Myanmar adult population, which will help morphologists and orthopaedic surgeons design prostheses and perform knee joint arthroscopy with a high success rate.

Period poverty refers to the lack of access to menstrual products. More than a billion women currently lack access to even the most basic supplies during their period, which can be linked to the inconveniences faced by women during their menstruation. The aim of this study was to evaluate period poverty issues among secondary school girls aged 15 to 17 in Ipoh, Malaysia. A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted among female secondary school students in Ipoh, Perak in order to determine the prevalence of period poverty and its consequences among adolescent girls. The study type was a convenient study, which involved distribution of questionnaires to the secondary school girls. Based on attitude adequacy on menstrual health practices, results showed students had good practices in maintaining menstrual hygiene and only 8.57% had an inadequate level of menstrual practices. Besides, period poverty is not prevalent among secondary school girls in Ipoh, Perak. This was due to that only 16.67% of students experienced period poverty. Moreover, period poverty showed affected the student lifestyle, where the present study showed that 20.95% skipped the attendance in school, 37.62% experienced emotional stress and anxiety and 39.05% did not change their menstrual products due to unclean washing facilities and 54.76% experienced lack of participation in school activity.

Lawsone, a naturally occurring organic compound also called hennotannic acid, obtained mainly from Lawsonia inermis (Henna). It is a potential drug-like molecule with unique chemical and biological characteristics. Traditionally, henna is used in hair and skin coloring and is also a medicinal herb for various diseases. It is also widely used as a starting material for the synthesis of various drug molecules. In this review, we investigate on the chemistry, biosynthesis, physical and biological properties of lawsone. The results showed that lawsone has potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antitumor properties. It also induces cell cycle inhibition and programmed cell death in cancer, making it a potential chemotherapeutic agent. Additionally, inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokine production makes it an essential treatment for inflammatory diseases. Exploration of its biosynthetic pathway can pave the way for its development into targets for new drug development. In future, well-thought-out clinical studies should be made to verify its safety and efficacy.

Objective: The aim of this study was to establish the incidence of liver abnormalities in psoriatic arthritis patients and identify the factors that contributed to this condition.

Methods: This is a longitudinal co hort study. Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients with liver enzymes abnormalities were identified. Our control group consisted of PsA patient from the same cohort who had no history of liver abnormalities. Factors associated with liver abnormalities were identified using univariate and multivariate analysis.

Results. A total of 247 of PsA patients were included and out of those, 99 developed liver enzymes abnormalities. The mean age of the patients was 56 years old (±13.5) with 56.1% female and 39.4% Indian descen dants. The univariate logistic regression demonstrated that disease duration of PsA (OR=1.06, 95% CI=1.01 - 1.10, p=0.012), diabetes mellitus (OR=2.16, 95% CI=1.26 - 3.70, 0.005) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) (OR=3.90, 95% CI = 1.44 - 10.53, p=0.007) were associated with abnormal liver function in PsA patients. No association was found with both conventional synthetic disease-mod ifying antirheumatic drugs or biologics.

Conclusion: Liver enzymes abnormalities in PsA patients were linked to disease duration, diabetes mellitus and NAFLD. For these high-risk populations, vigilant mon itoring of liver function tests is vital for early detection and intervention.
